About Tui and Harakeke
The tui is easily recognised by the white feather tufts under its throat and the loud beautiful melodies it sings. Many references to the bird’s native country of New Zealand are present in the picture. The blue background is the colour of the national flag, the circle is the sun that NZ is the first to see, and the white is the spray of the ocean that surrounds New Zealand. The orange symbolises the flowers of the harakeke (flax) plant, a favourite source of nectar for the tui.
The Artist
Yihan, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Grenoble in France in 2005, has been a talented artist since the young age. In Tui and Harakeke, Yihan combines the 3D figurative and 2D abstract styles.
